Don writes as follows:

There are basically two phases in terms of financial aid for college. The first is long term planning and the second is the planning done when the student is a high school senior in the college application process. While both are essentially the parents’ responsibility, PDS can provide some guidance. Andrea Parent-Tibbetts, PDS business manager and a member of the college counseling team, conducts an annual information session in December to help parents of seniors with the steps in the process of actually applying financial aid, and she is able to answer most questions that come up. She has suggested the following web sites as accurate and legitimate sources of information about financial aid.
Title IV Codes
www.ed.gov/offices/OPE
Financial Aid Information Page
www.finaid.org
U.S. Department of Education Student Guide
studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/student_guide/
New York State Higher Education Services Corp.
www.hesc.com
FASTWEB (scholarship search)
www.studentservices.com/fastweb
FAFSA
www.fafsa.ed.gov
NYSFAAA
www.nysfaaa
College Board
http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_ss/welcome.jsp

Don Fried
Director of College Counseling and Senior Class Advisor
845-462-7600 x120
dfried@poughkeepsieday.org

It was a very helpful evening. Thank you to all. Especially the explanation of the process and how the school helps with the SATs. Very reassuring.
How can we find out more about financial aid for college?
