They started appearing on campus last week. The gnomes. Peaceful gnomes presiding over the grounds and the walkway between the buildings.
And now they are proliferating.
Another appeared at my window this afternoon. Does he need to be brought inside?

These may be a variety of autumn (fall) gnome associated with the seasonal eruption of mushrooms and toadstools, their best friends. They will thus be happy for while in this season of fruitfulness but should be taken in at the first sign of frost. A warm place and a steaming bowl of Heinz tomato soup with a crusty roll is usually the best panacea for the temporary loss of outdoor habitat.Hope this helps.

Information has now been received that signs of a minor gnome eruption occured earlier this year in London,England. There are unconfirmed reports that this may be linked to,, or similar to that seen in Poughkeepsie, NY earlier this week.Scientists are still examining the evidence. Police are treating this as suspicious and are understood to have applied to magistrates for powers to hold and interview gnomes under counter-terrorism laws. Other sources however say, at this time there is no cause for panic. Dr.G. Popgnomeivich of the University of Hertfordshite and her able assitant D.J Finchgnomeson say it is generally considered that gnomes are friendly and benign. They are there to provide us with an unchanging, more Elysian ideal of a friendly, simple, halcyon world to contrast and compare with how most of us experience the world today. Indeed, that we wish to be these gnomes, happily meditating on a tuffet or reading our favourite book, undisturbed, Dr.Pop however warns that there can be a darker side and evidence released today would seem to support this.
