I agree that many parents will also be understandably concerned and caring to select a better favoured school for their child so I would like to correct my comment to exclude the word "all". However, unfortunately, the dominant culture of competition still directs the education available to, or selected by,the majority. For the sake of all, I sincerely hope that, over time, that will change. Meanwhile it is heartening to see the very different, creative and co-operative approach as exemplified by PDS.

It's also about understandable parental concern to make sure their child is admitted to one of the better favored public schools in NYC.

Seems to me that this is all about the parents needs but dressed up by them to seem/feel as though they are caring for their child. Yet actually it is about a.what will my child's "attainment" say about me? b. how can I shift the burden off myself onto someonelse. This includes those who I can pay to take them off my hands so giving me more personal time and also who can take the responsibility off me for my child's development. In the U.K. its been practised for years - it's called Boarding and Private/Public School. And we can see the results of that all too badly in those who run society today.
