Science Symposium 09

P5082099The sixth annual Science Symposium meant  7th and 8th graders ready to share their work with the school community. As always – an impressive display of investigation, collaborative work and erudition. These students know their work and why it matters.  And they are more than happy to share their research.

In a new departure this year, the 5th and 6th grades were part of the expo. P5082108The 5th grade presented their  “Simple Machines” – Rube Goldberg devices demonstrating kinetic  and potential energy combined with gravitational pull tied together with string and wire.  Marbles, blocks, P5082119cardboard tubes, clothes pegs, dominoes of horror movies and a blue plastic severed hand were all pressed into service.

The sixth grade had their programmed robots on display and on mission, including one accomplished mechanical ballet.

Everyone did such a terrific job in preparation for the Science Symposium…The 5-6 students met the challenge beautifully. Their solid presentatons of their projects were very impressive and they illustrated how much they learned about working in groups. Kudos to the teachers, parent volunteers, and students! I think the 5-6 grade should continue to be involved in future years, and I think the lego robotics have found a new home as well.
